BPA 75th ANNIVERSARY

HIKES in JONES WOODS

The BPA is leading walks in Jones Woods (see map below) sponsored by Morris Twp as part of Morris Township In Motion's series of walks and biking events.

Enjoy the natural beauty of the Picatinny Valley while learning a bit of the history of one of Morris Township’s hidden gems.

COMMUNITY ROCK SNAKE

Picture
Burnie, the Burnham Park snake, has taken up residence near the Burnham Park sign at the corner of Rt. 124 and Burnham Parkway, and he needs your help to grow. You can paint your own rock and add it to Burnie, or add to his friend, Dewey's snake body at the Morristown / Morris Twp Library.

The Rock Snake is a joint community craft project of the Learning Express, Morristown / Morris Twp Library and the Burnham Park Association.

On May 7, hundreds of people enjoyed children's games, a watercolor workshop, Sit Spot nature exercise, Snakes 'n Scales live animal demo, County Sheriff K9 demo, guided walk in Jones Woods / Green Strip, food and lots and lots of fun!

There was a brief commemorative ceremony with officials from Morristown and Morris Township and the Burnham heirs. The Burnham Park Association gratefully acknowledges their support.

Our 2nd flamingo Scavenger Hunt was initiated for a run of two weeks with birds spotted in Jones Woods, the Green Strip and Burnham Park. Congratulations to the winners, the Armstrong and Snaguski families who spotted the most flamingos!

THEN & NOW

On April 19, 2023, the BPA, active since its founding in 1948, kicked off its 75th Anniversary celebration with a program spotlighting local history through the lens of the BPA with Then and Now presentations by Rick Bye, Paula Zimin and Dr. Lynn Siebert:
  • 100 years in Burnham Park / Jones Woods
  • 100 years of Burnham Estates development
  • 75 years of BPA stewardship
  • Future revitalization plans by Morristown, Morris Twp and the BPA in Burnham Park / Jones Woods / Green strip.

View 3 historical presentations below and the Morristown Revitalization Plan for the future.

NJ Senator Anthony Bucco presented a citation to the BPA for 75 years of  "dedicated service to preserve the natural and historical resources of the community."

We thank the Morristown / Morris Twp Library for generously providing the 2- month-long (April - Memorial Day 2023) exhibit space, the spotlight event room, and for placing our Then and Now visuals on the Library website as a co-sponsor of this historic community event.
