Burnham Park Association

​​The Burnham Park Association is a nonprofit neighborhood association in Morristown and Morris Township founded in 1948 which is dedicated to building and sustaining a healthy and vibrant neighborhood. The BPA stays informed about environmental concerns, local business and events, and health and safety issues that impact the community; and advises members on relevant activity in Morristown and Morris Township.

​The BPA serves as the steward of Burnham Park, Jones Woods, the Green Strip and surrounding areas and is dedicated to preserving and protecting environmentally sensitive lands, viewsheds as well as critical natural and historic resources. It collaborates with other organizations on various projects and events, and works to educate area citizens, promoting community engagement with the goal of preserving a beautiful area for the enjoyment and benefit of future generations. ​

BPA 75th ANNIVERSARY - Celebrate with us!

HIKE in JONES WOODS
Saturday, June 24, 2023 @1pm

The BPA is leading a walk in Jones Woods (see map below) sponsored by Morris Twp as part of the "Morris Township In Motion" walks and biking events.
​
Enjoy the natural beauty of the Picatinny Valley while learning a bit of the history of one of Morris Township’s hidden gems.  Meet at 1:00pm at the gravel road entrance to Jones Woods located off Hillcrest Avenue near its intersection with East and West Lake Boulevards.

The Jones Woods walk is part of a season of special events proclaimed by the Township Committee. Join volunteers from the Township’s Transportation Advisory Committee for Morris Township in Motion:
  • May  28 @ 10 a.m. Cycle around the Convent Station neighborhood on the easy-riding Loantaka Loop connecting bicycle-friendly roads and park trails. Bring your bike to the Municipal Building parking lot to start. 
  • June 3 @ 10 a.m.  Walk the Fairchild Loop and explore the quiet neighborhood, the nearby Patriot’s Path and the Speedwell Avenue “downtown” with choices for coffee or lunch among others. 
  • June 24 @ 1 p.m.  Hike Jones Woods and discover a hidden pond, trails and a history that includes water supply in the Picatinny Valley. Back by popular demand.  
  • July 8 @ 1 p.m. Hike ADA-accessible Jockey Hollow Top Preserve tucked away near the National Park and part of our area’s incredible history.

FAMILY FUN DAY

On May 7, hundreds of people enjoyed children's games, a watercolor workshop, scavenger hunt (the flamingos are migrating again!), Sit Spot nature exercise, Snakes 'n Scales live animal demo, County Sheriff K9 demo, guided walk in Jones Woods / Green Strip, food and lots and lots of fun!

There was a brief commemorative ceremony with officials from Morristown and Morris Township and the Burnham heirs. The Burnham Park Association gratefully acknowledges support from Morristown, Morris Township and the Burnham heirs.

The BPA kicked off the 75th Anniversary celebration with an exhibit (through May 31) and program on April 19 at the Morristown / Morris Twp Library spotlighting local history through the lens of the BPA with four Then and Now presentations (view on Anniversary page).

NJ Senator Anthony Bucco presented a citation to the BPA for 75 years of  "dedicated service to preserve the natural and historical resources of the community."

We thank the Morristown / Morris Twp Library for generously providing the exhibit space (extended through May 31) and evening celebration room, and for posting our Then & Now presentations on the Library website, as a co-sponsor of this historic community event.
